On WordPress’ Killer Asset: Its Community

If there’s one thing that makes WordPress the most popular (and the best) choice for newbie webmasters, it’s the community that powers it.

With WordPress, you get unparalleled support from the owners of over 72 million sites that run on the free open-source CMS. When you’ve got that many users of any one application, you can be pretty sure that almost every problem you could possibly face has already been solved.

So the answer to most problems if often only a search away. With that in mind, in this post I reveal the various aspects of the WordPress community that can help you to make the most out of the world’s favorite CMS.

WordPress Codex

WordPress Codex is basically a giant knowledge base that guides new users through the process of setting it up on their site, performing the basic functions, and even customizing CSS. It also offers some excellent resources if you ever think of creating a WordPress plugin or a theme.

If you are just getting started with WordPress, the Codex is where you need to go first.

WordPress Support

The WordPress support forum itself has over 1.3 million threads in various sub-forums. There’s answers to everything, from theme and plugin reviews to plugin coding hacks.

If you are having trouble with a specific plugin or theme and you hop onto a thread that discusses it, chances are that you will find that the developer has already visited and resolved the issue.

If you are having difficulty with an issue that has never been discussed before, no problem there either. Just login with your WordPress.org account (or set one up in 30 seconds if you haven’t created one yet), choose the appropriate sub-forum, and ask for help.

It’s quite likely that you will have the solution to your problem within a few minutes of posting the new topic.

Webmaster & Internet Marketing Forums

If you’d rather not post on the WordPress forum, there is also a whole host of other webmaster forums out there to choose from, like V7N, Webmaster Forums, and SitePoint. Quite a few of them will have whole sub-forums dedicated to WordPress.

Additionally, even internet marketing forums can also be quite helpful with WordPress topics. The majority of online marketers seem to use WordPress and the long-timers usually know every trick in the WordPress book.

WordPress Blogs

If you need an in-depth tutorial, a detailed theme review or a plugin comparison, there’s always WordPress blogs. There are a huge number of WordPress-related blogs (WP Beginner, ManageWP, and WP Smashing Magazine to name a few) waiting for you right now.

Hit them up whenever you need something that goes beyond forum threads.

Wrapping Up

There’s no denying the fact that WordPress’ community is one of the key things that really powers it and make it so newbie friendly.

Even though WordPress.org itself does not offer one-on-one support, you can hardly say that it is missed.

There are hoards of people who are facing the same complications as you at any given time, and many more who are willing to help you. You’re not alone!
